How to do it
- Stand facing the first stair (or a sturdy step 6–8 inches high). Hold the railing if you need to.
- Place one whole foot on the step — heel included.
- Press through the heel of the top foot to step up, without pushing off with the bottom foot.
- Step down slowly with the same leg. Finish all reps on one side, then switch.
Breathing: Breathe out as you step up, breathe in as you step down.
How much to start with: 2–3 sets × 8–12 reps (each leg)
❌ Common mistakes
- Bouncing up off the bottom foot.
- Letting the top knee cave inwards.
- Putting only your toes on the step.
⚠️ Safety
- Make sure the step is dry and solid. Keep a railing or wall nearby for balance. Don't use a tall stool or a plastic chair.
